Lenovo IdeaPad Y500 review

Where to buy:

Lenovo IdeaPad Y510p 15.6-Inch Laptop (Metal – Dusk Black)

The good: The Lenovo IdeaPad Y500 offers high-end components, including gamer-level graphics, a swappable accessory bay, and the coolest-looking backlit keyboard I’ve seen in a long while.

The bad: If only the Y500 had a touch screen, which is practically required for the Windows 8 UI, it might be one of my favorite laptops of the year.

The bottom line: For those looking for something more than a feature-light ultrabook, the gamer-friendly Lenovo IdeaPad Y500 is close to brilliant, and several configurations are currently available at a deep discount — but I can’t believe it doesn’t have a touch screen.

Roku LT review

Where to buy:

Roku LT Streaming Player

The good: The Roku LT is a small streaming-media box that costs only $50. It offers hundreds of streaming-video and -audio services, including Netflix, Hulu Plus, Amazon Instant Video, HBO Go, Vudu, Spotify, Pandora, Mog, Rdio, and MLB.TV. Roku also offers cross-platform search, capable of finding content across major streaming services. And the LT also supports older TVs via its analog video output.

The bad: For those invested in the Apple ecosystem, the Roku LT doesn’t offer the same tight integration as the Apple TV’s AirPlay functionality. The Roku LT also lacks a YouTube channel. And there’s no Ethernet port, so you’ll need a solid Wi-Fi signal in your home theater.

The bottom line: The Roku LT is a killer streaming-media box, offering tons of streaming content — including favorites like Netflix, Amazon Instant, Hulu Plus, and Pandora — for just $50.

Roku 3 review

Where to buy:

Roku 3 Streaming Player

The good: The Roku 3′s excellent new interface and faster processor makes it feel quicker and more responsive than any other streaming box. More than 750 channels are supported, including Netflix, Amazon Instant, HBO Go, Hulu Plus, Pandora, MLB.TV, Amazon Cloud Player, and Vudu. It also has cross-platform search that scours several major TV and movie services to find content. And Roku’s nifty new remote has a built-in headphone jack that lets you listen without disturbing others.

The bad: There’s still no official YouTube channel. Some services have an outdated interface on Roku compared to other streamers. The Apple TV still works better within the Apple ecosystem. And the Roku 3 isn’t a great option if you’re mostly looking to stream your personal digital media collection.

The bottom line: The Roku 3 is the best streaming-video box yet, with tons of content sources, lightning-fast performance, and an innovative remote with built-in headphone jack.

Apple TV review

Where to buy:

TotalMount – Apple TV Universal Mounting Kit

The good: The Apple TV lets you stream all the video content in the iTunes Store to your HDTV, with purchases stored in the cloud. Netflix, Hulu Plus, HBO Go, MLB.TV, and a handful of other online media services are available, plus music, videos, and photos can be streamed from iOS devices using AirPlay. AirPlay Mirroring lets you stream any Web video to the Apple TV, if you have a newer Mac running Mountain Lion. And Apple TV’s user interface is one of the best there is.

The bad: The competing Roku 3 offers more content sources (including Amazon Instant), cross-platform search, and a remote with a headphone jack. The Apple TV is less of a standout streamer box if you don’t own other Apple devices.

The bottom line: While it’s still a step behind the Roku 3, the Apple TV is an excellent streaming box, especially for those invested in the Apple ecosystem.

Samsung PNF8500 review

Where to buy:

Samsung PN60F8500 60-Inch 1080p 600Hz 3D Smart Plasma HDTV

The good: The Samsung PNF8500 series exhibits outstanding picture quality with a class-leading bright-room image, exceedingly deep black levels, very good shadow detail, highly accurate colors and superb off-angle and uniformity characteristics; mind-boggling feature list with touch-pad remote, IR blaster with cable box control, four pairs of 3D glasses, motion and voice command, and the industry’s most capable Smart TV platform; unique styling with full-width ribbon stand and slim-bezel metallic finish.

The bad: Extremely expensive; correct film cadence requires sacrificing some black level; remote lacks numerous direct commands; imperfect cable box control; consumes more power than LCD TVs.

The bottom line: Samsung’s best-performing TV ever, the PNF8500 series pushes the plasma picture quality envelope, especially in bright rooms.

Silk Fruit & Protein: Starting Your Family’s Day Off The Healthy Way! #Spon

silk.3 Silk Fruit & Protein: Starting Your Familys Day Off The Healthy Way! #Spon

Silk Fruit & Protein: Starting Your Family’s Day Off The Healthy Way! #Spon

At home we try stay health-conscious as much as we can, and when I get the opportunity to review products that are good for me and my family, they are welcomed! The Silk Fruit & Protein folks asked me to try their their product, and all they asked was that I give my honest opinion.  Families, especially moms nowadays seem to be always on the go, we’re all just so busy. Sometimes we’re so busy, that we forget to properly take care of ourselves, many times forgetting to start our day with a nutritious breakfast. My daughter is obsessed with Silk Fruit & Protein,  super delicious drink which is great for both children and adults! She enjoys it after a nap and for breakfast. Her favorite is the Mango! We all know the saying that breakfast is the most important meal of the day, yet we’re all guilty of skipping it now and then. Yes I admit it I’m guilty of this too, maybe too often but that has changed recently!

Sometimes little things can make a big difference in starting our day and getting something nutritious into our bodies. Instead of apple or orange juice or another juice with our breakfast, I’ve now been adding to our breakfast table, or in some cases our breakfast on the run, Silk Fruit and Protein.  It’s an awesome beverage that is a super yummy tasting fruit juice blend that contains an great source of protein (that other juices don’t have), fantastic source of Calcium, Vitamin D & Vitamin C. Did I mention that it tastes so yummy? It comes in some yummy flavors such as Mixed Berry (my favorite), Strawberry Banana and Mango Peach!

silk.4 Silk Fruit & Protein: Starting Your Familys Day Off The Healthy Way! #Spon

There is no way to go wrong with any of the flavors since most kids love strawberry & banana and who doesn’t love mango and peach? The kids won’t even know they’re having something so nutritious because it just tastes so darn good. It’s quick to drink and a fabulous addition to breakfast whether you’re on the go or enjoying a nice Sunday (or any day) breakfast at home with the family. I know that my daughter and the other kids in our extended family love drinking Silk Fruit and Protein, in fact some of them ask for it now not only at breakfast but at all times of the day. Yep it’s that tasty it shouldn’t be that good for you but it is, what a treat!

silk.5 Silk Fruit & Protein: Starting Your Familys Day Off The Healthy Way! #Spon

Here’s a tip I wanted to share though if for some reason you can’t find it in your local grocery store, for some reason some of them have it located near other Silk and plant-based-beverages such as soy or almond milk, not in the juice section. Not sure why but that’s where you may find it, I don’t want you to miss out on being able to try it out and if you do want to try it (it is so tasty) you can ALSO get a $1 OFF coupon on Silk Fruit and Protein’s Facebook page by going here: http://on.fb.me/YidF5R. Go and grab that coupon now, give it a try and pack your breakfast full of vitamins and protein with Fruit Silk & Protein. I would love to hear if your family loves it as much as mine and tell us what flavor you like the most!

Are you keeping your family health-conscious with products such as Silk Fruit & Protein?

Motorola Moto X review

Where to buy:

Motorola DROID X Android Verizon Cell Phone

The good: The Motorola Moto X squeezes a speedy camera and futuristic voice command capabilities into a well-crafted design that hits the sweet spot between screen size and comfort. The phone has great battery life and is available in an endless variety of customized designs.

The bad: With no expandable storage, space could get tight, especially on the 16GB base model. The screen isn’t as big and sharp as those on some competing handsets.

The bottom line: While in screen quality and storage capacity it lags behind rival superphones, the Moto X’s superbly compact and comfortable design, whiz-bang voice controls, and long battery life make it a worthy Android contender.

Nokia Lumia 1020 review

Where to buy:

Nokia Lumia 1020, White (AT&T)

The good: The Nokia Lumia 1020 smartphone’s camera captures extremely high-resolution images with fine detail, and puts creative controls at your fingertips.

The bad: A niche device, the Lumia 1020 is $100 pricier than most high-end smartphones. The lens makes it a little bulky. Multiple camera apps are confusing. It lacks manual f-stop control and presets for common shooting scenarios.

The bottom line: Avid mobile photographers will love the Nokia Lumia 1020′s exact controls, but casual users should stick to cheaper camera phones.

HTC 8XT review

Where to buy:

HTC 8XT (Sprint)

The good: The HTC 8XT is trim and attractive, runs long, and takes quality pictures. It also connects to Sprint’s growing 4G LTE network and has powerful speakers.

The bad: The HTC 8XT’s dual-core processor is slow and applications handle sluggishly. Its Windows Phone 8 OS has a comparatively small app selection compared to Android and iOS.

The bottom line: Though the HTC Windows Phone 8X brings some needed OS freshness to Sprint, its sluggish processor and average display make it hard to recommend for anyone but committed Windows Phone 8 fans.

Fujifilm X-E1 review

where to buy:

Fujifilm X-E1 16.3MP Compact System Digital Camera with 2.8-Inch LCD – Body Only (Silver)

The good: The Fujifilm X-E1 delivers excellent photo quality in an attractively designed body with a streamlined shooting layout.

The bad: While not bad, performance lags in its class, and the video quality disappoints.

The bottom line: It’s not a general-purpose recommendable camera thanks to subpar video and slightly sluggish performance, but for photo-quality-first photographers who want the analog-ish shooting experience, the Fujifilm X-E1 rules in its price range.

Samsung ATIV Book 9 review

Where to buy:
The good: The Samsung Ativ Book 9 is still one of the smallest and best-built Windows 8 ultrabooks around, and has a crisp 1080p display.
The bad: It lacks a touch screen, and battery life is disappointing for such an expensive laptop.
The bottom line: Formerly the Samsung Series 9, the rebranded Ativ Book 9 got little more than a change in name; the laptop feels dated, as it lacks a touch screen and the benefits of newer Intel processors
